Activities
September was a month filled with mixed weather, which influenced our outdoor plans. As mentioned in the previous monthly recap, I attempted a larger mountain biking tour, but unfortunately, I had to cancel that plan. Instead, I opted for a refreshing walk around the Osterseen in Iffeldorf.
During the month, I engaged in smaller cycling activities rather than extensive hiking tours. The weather’s unpredictability resulted in varying conditions that limited our hiking adventures. However, I used the rainy days to test our rain gear while cycling, which proved to be a great experience. I learned a great deal and we ended up purchasing some new cycling clothes to enhance our comfort during wet conditions.
One of the highlights of the month was a long hike in the Karwendel region, specifically around the Kompar and Plumsjoch. This scenic journey was a much-needed escape into nature. Just a week later, temperatures dropped in the mountains by about 30°C. The places we hiked at over 25°C suddenly faced more than 1m of snow! With that amount of snow, it wasn’t safe to go higher up into the mountains. Sure, it was tempting to touch snow, but it was just too dangerous. Various reports about avalanches and … more tragically incidents … proofed us right to stay in lower areas.
Therefore, we visited one of our local mountains for leisurely walks, which offered a pleasant change of pace. Unfortunately, my month took a downturn when I was struck by food poisoning. This experience left me feeling miserable for three days, and I cannot recall the last time I felt so unwell. It took a while for me to fully recover; thus, my outdoor activities were temporarily halted. But it also had a good side: it made me think quite a bit about my usage of Social Media. After regaining my strength, we visited a regional garden show near Munich, where we enjoyed the beautiful gardens filled with an array of flowers and plants.
To start our vacation on a picturesque note, we endeavored on a hike that looked promising on the map. However, we encountered numerous fallen trees along the trail, transforming it into a long and exhausting journey – a true adventure. Lastly, we visited the Munich Zoo, where we enjoyed a relaxing day learning about and photographing wildlife. I also tested out filming with my SLR, successfully capturing some nice zoom shots of young lynxes. Well .. and right now, we are enjoying some vacations!
Photography
September was not particularly fruitful in terms of photography. My activities leaned more towards cycling than hiking, which limited my opportunities to capture scenic moments. Additionally, the bout of food poisoning was not conducive to engaging in photography. Nonetheless, the highlight of my photographic endeavors certainly came during the hike in the Karwendel region. The stunning landscapes provided ample opportunities for capturing memorable images.

A Walk with Great Views over Tegernsee
Recently, my wife purchased a small guidebook featuring Saturday walks around Bad Tölz. With her back giving her trouble, we opted for a gentle stroll along the Bodensee-Königssee Cycling Way. The walk offered beautiful views and photo opportunities, yet I was left pondering the light’s impact on my captures.

Adapting Plans: A Day of Cycling and Leisure
At the start of September, I set out for a bike and hike in the Karwendel mountains. However, an unexpected discomfort led to a change in plans. Instead of the anticipated adventure, I enjoyed a leisurely walk around a nearby lake, discovering potential photo spots along the way.

Astonishing Late-Summer Views in the Karwendel
Two weeks ago, we ventured into the Karwendel mountains for a scenic loop hike. Starting early to avoid the heat and crowds, we encountered an unexpected neighbor and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. However, the drastic weather changes that followed serve as a reminder of nature’s unpredictability.
