What personal data we collect and why we collect it

By default WordPress does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. However some of your plugins may collect personal data. This will be listed below.

Comments

If you enter comments, the data you entered is obviously saved. Plus the Date and time and the IP address. This is solely done for legal purposes. If you enter illegal content, we will not hesitate to forward this information to the respective authorities.

Spam protection is currently done via Antispam Bee, a plugin that should not forward any data to third parties.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Media

You shouldn’t be able to upload media except a profile picture in the comments (which is then saved)

Contact forms

Sendinblue is used for sending newsletter emails. See here how your email data is processed. The email addresses are used for the newsletter only! Double-Opt-In ensures that you only receive emails after an explicit confirmation. Unsubscribing can be done within each email. If this should not work due to a technical error: drop me an email (with the address to remove) to a) remove you and b) fix it!

Cookies

You may have notices that there is no Cookie banner. Indeed there should not be any cookies (except technical failures or misconfigurations). It was decided to not use any tracking cookies – because those cookie banners suck and the data is not used anyway. There might be webserver access logs (even though not explicitly configured or accessible by me) which the usually save the IP address and referring URL.

Analytics

By default, WordPress does not collect any analytics data. For statistics purposes the plugin Koko-Analytics is used with GDPR-compliance enabled. So, there should not be any personal data collected. Read more about the details on the Koko Analytics Webpage or the plugin page.

Who we share your data with

By default WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

The website and services are hosted in Germany. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
