Winter hiking never quite held a special place in my heart, and I wasn’t much of a winter sports enthusiast post-alpine skiing days. However, a turning point came with a new addition to my gear – a camera, courtesy of my thoughtful wife.
As I familiarized myself with the camera, the winter landscape transformed into a possibility of monochromatic motives. Black and white photography, with its timeless allure, became an avenue to capture the raw essence of winter’s beauty.
This particular shot, taken from a summit overlooking the Karwendel, may not be deemed extraordinary. Still, it resonates with a personal connection – a memory of a delightful hike and the promise of future adventures among those distant summits. The decision to present it in black and white accentuates the stark contrast between the hues, allowing the viewer to appreciate the subtle details and atmospheric nuances that color sometimes conceals.
